You know, Jason, every time I see you've written a new blog, I'm feeling excited and eager to learn (more). Like watching the Oprah shows when a (to me back then) unknown author was her guest. When they talked about the book he or she had written. When I found out when I read their book, it made me feel anxious to 'change' the life I was living. Like you, I've read a lot of those books in my life and still do and your blog(s) give me the exact same feeling! It's a good feeling,to KNOW people 'get it' and (want to)change whatever it is, that has to be changed, to 'move on' or become a better person or a better example for their kids. Thank YOU, JASON, for YOUR input! I love it!

I sound like a broken record, but "To whom much is given, much is required". Thanks always for getting that, kicking self-absorption to the curb, and giving to others.

Couldn't agree with you more on this blog. A wise man once said: "The love you take is equal to the love you make." And I believed him. Growing up my Mom also taught me the more you give, the more you get...but always give for the pure joy of giving. I've always been a giver, and I love it! One of my favorite things to do is going thru Starbuck's drive thru, paying for my $3 coffee with a $20 and telling them to put the change towards the person's order behind me. Tell them to pay it forward. I do this quite often. The first time, the guy at the window thought I was nuts. Now he just smiles when I do it. So many people go thru life wondering what their Life Purpose is. And I think we're often misled into thinking it must be something really BIG. Often times, it's really something small that becomes BIG by doing the small thing well. And you never know if a small kindness directed at someone else was the big thing that person needed that day. This being said, I've decided that no matter what else I do in life, my Life Purpose is Kindness. To use my creativity to be kind to others and hopefully inspire others to pass that kindness on.

Here's a couple books that fall in line with your topic, I think you might like.

"The Go-Giver: A Little Story About A Powerful Business Idea" by Bob Burg and John David Mann and "Am I Being Kind? How Asking One Simple Question Can Change Your Life...And Your World." by Michael J Chase.

Let me know what you think if you read these. I'm hoping to launch my own little Kindness "project" soon, as well. As always...thanks for the inspiration!

Artists who don't figure out how to get it (mostly) right the first time...Are gonna have hell to pay on the road when they try to recreate the stunning perfection that they have constructed for their album...

Perfect doesn't sound good to me...I guess i can't relate to it...We'd miss the best music if all music had to be perfect...The best music comes from the human heart...directed at the human heart...there are no perfect hearts...i guess perfect music might bungle the message...bounce it off the heart and land it on the liver.

Sorry...got carried away...Jason...i agree!

The public is fickle. We love to hear lyrics that ebb and flow, and if the music makes you move, then the only thinking is I love this song, it makes me feel good without having to try. Music, to me, has always been a disposable entity...hense, me being (now), an electrician earning income instead of a musician earning income. Its all a path regardless of what the electorate demands, if we play and like ourselves for it, the industry is moot in that regard. Getting a handle on what makes it or doesn't, what sells or won't, that's all for others who are in that game, good at their job...it's like you said, j, about the artist on the right side that piqued your interest to check out, if only becuz, as a marketing tool, money well spent...the fact that the music did nothing for you(well, not nothing, certainly honest, just not very good), well, that's the way it goes...I always remember. growing up in the 60's and 70's, playing music, and then moving (myself) into the area of reinforcement and reproduction (lol, read that- roadie), the segway was a shift of hitting it big, to just roi(return on investment), and in rocker parlance, that just meant covering the bill of self promotion to continue playing, no longer hoping for a big pay day, let others guide that, just wanting to keep on keeping on(hey, good lyric, right)...to my point, in my vocation, I do what I do, as we all do, to the best of my ability, and I like doing what I do, but becuz of that internal satisfaction, the job comes easy, and the income (it) generates allows me to continue making "my" music, doing "my" production, without a thought of whether it (the music) will ever, ever cleverly find its way into the heart and soul of another, and that's good enuf for me...like you also said, as these artists do what they are doing, hopefully they will, as we all figger we'd do if we ever got paid well for our artistry, they will save the dough to possibly call future shots(I know, tuna is such a pessimist, but really, I'm forever the optimist when it comes to music), and I will be contributing to that end, for artists like that, for artists like you, that's the way of the world, always has been, always will be..just look at the landscape of quality, and not so quality, of peeps on youtube and within(and throughout) the internet, its enlightening, it's entertaining, and it's telling...this is not the 60's, 70's, etc, it's the 21st century, and and as the saying goes, it is what it is, and that's a good thing, imo, we ain't on this planet very long, so living life to the fullest as much as possible, makes for a good life. Dave G warmed my heart, too, when he said what he said, as far as making music(ie recordings), hell, I still use the half-track for the final mix, while, (even tho its brand new(12yrs old! ha! lol)I have a perfectly good Sony A7 dat in my studio, protools on the desktop, (yes, Anteres, heehee) and etc available to me, and when I listen to playback, me, others, it all sounds good, (to me), if only for the production value of the first and foremost conduit that it provides-listening enjoyment (to me), and that, my friend, is what keeps life interesting for us all, guys like you doing(and saying) what you do, and guys like me paying attention and absorbing the insight. Ha, I just love reading you, you're such a good read, don't ever stop, it's never pontification, it's always productive. And you, as you can see, are not so long winded as me, hahaha, and with that, I will shower you in leaving with props for the song NOW and (not)tell you that I anticipate a good time in "remixing" it in the true vein (as I see the composition) as the quality, if not best, pop song I've ever heard, it just needs a little (now) tweeking, lol. Take care

Hi Jason,Excellent post !!!Mark G here just chiming in here. IMHO, Art is not science...even though they CAN co-exist. We artists need to draw some new lines in the sand before we start judging all art as "product" and ignore the " process ". When a person sings, plays an instrument, paints, sculpts, dances, writes, tells jokes, acts, etc... without the aid of some corrective technology...it is pure art. It has integrity. However, when a work has been technologically "corrected " or scientifically enhanced...it loses it's artistic credibility. I can draw a quick analogy...Computers aided music is like steroidal enhanced athletics. Perhaps the Grammy Awards should add some NEW categories like...Technologically Enhanced Vocalist of the year or Computer aided song of the year...or things of that nature.

Oh and one more thing...I remember an old Chicago Live In Concert Album from the early 70's that had all the mistakes in it. It was superb because it ALWAYS let me KNOW that I was listening to people...and not machines.

Thanks for reading this ,

Subtle sounds like a good way to go - the world today seems totally 'over-branded'. After reading your blog with the mention of a good ole fashioned run, I'm going to get off my large backside and get out and run, run, run - ignoring every sight and sound of in your face marketing that I pass.
Safe trip home. Best wishes to you and yours. Anna
