The Life and Times of Jason Scheff

P90X One On One with Tony Horton

This is the 3rd Beachbody workout product I scored music for. When Mason Bendewald, (yes, of Mason Twist fame… I know, we love him and hate him at the same time for making us do that move), told me they were going to create a series of workouts that take you into Tony Horton’s private workout dojo, he asked if I’d be interested in writing music for it.

I asked what the environment was and Mason said, “Well, basically, Tony goes up into his gym and puts satellite radio on and works out.”  I was very intrigued.  I asked, “What does he listen to?”, and of course there was a mixture of great old classic rock with some modern rock.

I asked, “So what you want me to do is recreate the atmosphere of that music… basically be the radio in the background.” and Mason concurred.  Man, I was REALLY excited about this because in a day and age of the music industry getting weirder and weirder, as an artist/songwriter, the question keeps coming up, “What’s your motivation?”.

In the old days we’d try and think of an artist, or project, or some kind of destination to write songs for.  Some writers are just so prolific they don’t need a project to write for, you can’t stop them… it just pours out.  I’m not that guy.  At least hadn’t been, yet.  But this, I saw an opportunity in to write a LOT of music which in the end would leave me with a substantial amount of material.  Thanks again Beachbody for providing an opportunity to get busy, follow through and have valuable assets later on.  I wrote the music for all of Vol. 1 and some of Vol. 2.

I have these pieces of music ready to go, to turn into full songs with vocals and lyrics.  It’s coming…
