The Horizon

I was just passing through my family room this morning and Tracy had a movie on with Val Kilmer… I don't even remember the name of it… but he's blind and has a brief period where he can see as an adult. That's at least my take on it. And you know what's cool? It really doesn't matter if that's exactly the way the movie goes… the point is what I heard him say toward the end… resonated deeply with me… because it's a philosophy that has been getting more clear as I journey through developing myself personally.

You see, I'm one of those weird people who have such a perfectionism, (ooooh, an *ism*!), DISORDER… yes, for me, I'll call it a DISORDER… when it becomes the disguise for the real root of my issue and that's procrastination. Procrastination disguised as perfectionism. And then it's just moving *backwards*. Plain and simple.

So at the end of the movie, Val says, “I've seen the horizon. And even if I don't make it, it's worth reaching for.” I took that thought and here's my take on it.

I briefly saw the horizon… I know it's there, because I saw it, even if only fleeting… I've *seen* it… it's not just a fantasy… it's real.

And even if I don't make it, it's worth *reaching* for.

You see, that's what I've felt in the past… if I don't MAKE IT… reach the goal… what's the point? Well, the point is I'm a lot further along than if I hadn't even tried… and again, for me, that's moving in the wrong direction… backwards.

So there it is… my thought for the day, for me. If it helps anybody else… awesome… but for me, what a great thought? Just find the place I/we want to go… define it… know it's there… see it and start moving toward it.

Same thought, different words… “Shoot for the moon, and even if you don't make it, you're up in the stars!”
